Rep. Frank Wolf to hold briefing on South Sudan trip; recently visited world’s newest country
By Associated Press,
WASHINGTON POST — Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., is discussing what he saw on a recent trip to the world’s newest country.
Wolf will hold a news conference Monday afternoon at the Capitol to report on his findings on a recent trip to South Sudan.
He visited a refugee camp 20 miles from the border with Sudan,
where more than 25,000 people are living after fleeing fighting in the
Nuba Mountains. Refugees reported to Wolf that Sudan’s president, Omar
al-Bashir, has orchestrated a campaign of ethnic cleansing, mass murder
and rape.
The International Criminal Court in The Hague has issued
an international arrest warrant for al-Bashir for his alleged role in
crimes against humanity in Darfur.
Wolf is the first member of Congress to visit the camp in Yida.
