AL-FASHIR, Sudan, March 22 (UPI) -- Sudan has established four camps for receiving People's Defense Forces Brigades.
The paramilitary PDF is being formed in response to an order by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashar.
North Darfur state Gov. Osman Mohamed Yousif Kibir has met with PDF
Coordinator Ahmed Adam Abdul-Gadir to receive an update on the
mobilization of the PDF Brigade of North Darfur state.
According to Kibir, the PDF Brigades are being formed to protect the
homeland and repulse enemies of the state, Sudan Vision News Daily
reported Thursday.
Kibir added North Darfur state greatly depends on the PDF for protecting domestic tranquility there.
Abdul-Gadir said the number of PDF mujahedin fighters based at the camps now stands at 700 out of the required number of 1,000.
A senior member of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement North,
Yassir Saed Arman, accused Sudan's armed forces of actually mobilizing
45,000 fighters, mostly PDF forces, to launch attacks against civilian
populations in areas under their control.
